Ohms · Mesh vs Wire · Replacement Signs · Compatibility
Most "my vape tastes burnt" or "my flavor is weak" problems come down to the coil. Knowing what ohms mean, what mesh changes, and when to replace a cartridge saves money and keeps every puff tasting right.
1. Cartridge, Pod or Coil?
2. What Do Ohms Mean?
| Resistance | Typical Use | Feel | E-Liquid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0Ω and up | MTL pods | Tight draw, cooler vapor, strong flavor | Salt nic |
| 0.6–0.9Ω | MTL / RDL pods | Balanced flavor and vapor | Salt nic or MTL freebase |
| 0.3–0.5Ω | RDL / higher-power pods | Warmer, denser vapor | Lower-strength salt or freebase |
| Below 0.3Ω | DL pod mods and mods | Open draw, large clouds | DL freebase 3–6mg |
Lower resistance needs more power and uses e-liquid faster. Stay within the wattage range printed on the cartridge or coil.
3. Mesh vs Regular Coils
Mesh coils spread heat over a larger surface, so they heat up faster and evenly, giving fuller flavor. Regular wire coils are simpler and can feel a little sharper. Most modern pods use mesh.
4. When to Replace a Cartridge
Replace when you notice: a burnt or bitter taste · weak flavor even with a full tank · gurgling or spitting that does not clear · dark gunk on the coil.
Typical life: 1–2 weeks for most pod cartridges. Sweet and iced e-liquids shorten it.
5. Make Every Cartridge Last Longer
- Prime it: drop e-liquid on the coil holes and wait 5 minutes before the first puff.
- Do not chain vape: give the wick a few seconds between puffs.
- Keep it filled: never vape below the coil intake.
- Match the e-liquid: do not use thick DL e-liquid in small MTL pods. See our salt vs freebase guide.
6. Find the Right Replacement
Cartridges are model-specific. XLIM, NeXLIM and VPRIME pods do not swap between each other, and each Caliburn generation has its own pod. Browse Coils & Cartridges, and check our OXVA guide and Caliburn guide for compatibility.
